Reviews for Jesse
James Lived & Died in Texas:
"...Great book, so entertaining, and interesting!"
-Karen Lynn Gorney,
Actress best known as John
Travolta's girlfriend "Stephanie" on Saturday Night Fever
"What you see is what you
get! Author Betty Duke makes a fascinating matching photo case that her
great-grandfather, James L. Courtney and Jesse James, the famous
Confederate-turned-bank-robber, were indeed the same man. A 32-page
photosection provides remarkable matches of the Courtney/James families.
Using such modern investigative methods as DNA and computerized photo
analysis, the author will convince many Western buffs that 'poor Jesse was
NOT laid in his grave."
-Bill O'Neal,
Author and Authority on
outlaws and lawmen
"Betty Dorset Duke has
written a provocative book. It will raise the dust of controversy that
many western history buffs believe had been settled a long time ago. I
say "more power to her." The lady deserves high praise for having courage
of her convictions. Skeptics may abound, but they'll have to deal with
her surprising photographic evidence."
- William W. Savage, Jr.
Professor of History,
University of Okalahoma
"The title alone will have
James loyalists gunning for author Betty Duke. But the Austin author
presents a passel of persuasive evidence - including the startling
photographs - to prove that the legendary outlaw faked his murder in
Missouri and quietly relocated to a Texas farm. Duke's book is
fascinating: Passing it up would be a crime."
- Anne Dingus,
Texas Monthly
